I have a video “review“ on YouTube off the dome with P 90 episode insert game name here
The dogfighting and action aspects of the game are really good. Some of the more advanced maneuvers are challenging to get right, but that's OK - I don't mind putting in the time to improve my skills.
Many aspects of the game that aren't dogfighting are slow and clunky. You fly to a certain spot and wait for something to happen, and it usually does within several seconds, but there's no real indication that you're in the right spot. In one case, I would fly to the spot, nothing would happen, then the destination would appear right behind me. There was no way to trigger the interaction that was supposed to happen, and no guidance from the game as to what I was doing wrong. Was it a bug or pilot error? Who knows?
There's no clear way to skip dialogue in cutscenes, and you can't save whenever you want, so every time you die, you go back to the last checkpoint and have to listen to the same cheesy dialogue over again.
When you fly between missions, it's really slow even using the fastest options. The game is visually beautiful, but it shouldn't force me to enjoy the scenery if that's not the type of gameplay I want.
I don't expect nonstop action in a game - the Mass Effect series did a great job blending action and story without being boring or frustrating. This game had me cursing at the screen - there's not enough goodness to make up for all the rest.

One of the great things about the Space Combat genre is you can create dozens of unique fleet battles without needing any new game assets, the old space sims of the 90's had 60+ missions each, with capitol ships in almost every mission, I get it that this game also has lots of fun agility puzzles but if you're a combat buff this will seem like it's only half a game.
Then again they launched the game at a budget price so maybe that's appropriate.
The highlight of the game is definitely the main boss battles, the two main boss encounters in Chorus put Star Fox to shame. Unfortunately it is only two encounters, but at the same time I wouldn't want more repetition of these two encounters either.
If the developers can make a sequel with at least four unique gigantic bosses and at least three dozen capitol fleet battles (2x more bosses and 3x more fleet combat) then I would be highly satisfied paying full price.
As-is if you like space combat then this is a decent value at $40, a good deal at $30 and a must buy at $20.
(Note to the developers: This game could really use a streamlined "Arcade Mode" that cuts most of the dialogue, I'd love to re-play the game but with how much you're forced to sit and listen to conversations it really wouldn't feel worthwhile in the current format.)
