Wanted to make sure any paper products like handouts, worksheets, fliers, etc could be shredded for use in our compost bin to eventually be rendered useful for our classroom garden. That was in December ʻ18. Itʻs April ʻ19 and iʻm going about my business shredding more and more documents all amped on our efforts of reducing the amount of paperwork we use in the first place, but also at least composting what papers we DO use. This morning I'm going about my business prepping for today's class and shredding old memos, etc when I hear a grinding, slow, painful noise coming from the shredding. "Great....time to buy a new shredder..." was honestly my first thought. Store brands...what can you do?! I try to reverse it...more grinding...Run it forward...more grinding.... I unplug the shredder (safety first!!) and then lift if off itʻs bin and look at the shredding teeth. Nothing seems stuck, out of place, or out of the ordinary. I look inside the bin, there's this twisted metal object, right on top of the pile of otherwise expertly shredded paper. I know itʻs a quarter form the reeded edge and its size, and can see (whatʻs left of) the 2018 date on it. George Washington's mug is gone, but Liberty on the front is there. IDK whatʻs on the back, but just "PICTURED ROCK" is all I can read. "Okay...cool, a messed up quarter. Great. But does your shredder still work?" YES! IT DOES! I grab more of the papers that are destined for the compost heap, and they shred as expected. Iʻm dang impressed! Great job BestBuy with your Insignia brand!! Okay, itʻs almost class time, gotta go!! A hui hou!

only had for about a month so far working good!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only had for about a month so works good !! and it was cheap I like that the basket made out of a rubber so it won't break like some others, and it lite in weight but enough that it can't so it can't tipped over. I like it just the right size for me. It has in the middle where u can shed plastic cards just not sure why cuz the blade is all the same so to me it shouldn't matter just put it in like the paper but whatever it sheds paper with staples and cards in it so that good, so it's a good small but big enough shedder does what other do and the price good!!

Insignia 6-Sheet Crosscut Shredder
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been wanting to get a shredder for a while now for home, but I found the high capacity electric ones too expensive. This Insignia model was on sale, and even though it only does 6 sheets at a time, it is perfect for home and at a great price.

Tried to kill it!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased Dec 21, 2019. Day one; I shredded 30 lbs of paper (weighed on a scale). I stacke the paper up and run it non-stop through the shredder until it overheated (all paper shredders have an auto-shut down to prevent overheating). This unit is rated for 3 minutes of continued running... I ran paper (10-12 sheets at a time) non stop for 26 minutes before I triggered the auto shut off. Cooled down for 8 minutes and ran it again for 15 minutes before I took a break. Staples - no problem. I did not run paper clips through the shredder (those are too large). Great machine....so far!

Great office shredder
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works great for what I need it to do. Perfect for my home office. Shreds my docs into tiny pieces both vertically and horizontally, which is very secure. Only downside is that it's a bit loud and the top isn't secured to the base/trash can. So if it tips over, expect everything inside to be on the floor.

Great shredder for home use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using this shredder for two months now and have not had any problems with small daily uses. However, I did discover that it overheated after 30 minutes of use. Normally I would not have that much to shred so I wouldn't discredit its use for that reason. I wanted one that would shred a few pages a day, mostly from the mail, and have not found any fault with the shredder for that use.

Q: QuestionOverheatingIs there a feature for overheating protection?
Asked by nessaros.
- A:Answer yes there is, but this machine will stop after only about 2 to 3 minutes of shredding....so if you have any kind of volume at all, this is not the machine for you

Q: QuestionDoes it shred checks without jammingAny problems with jamming of papers or checks.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Have had no jams since purchasing. We do not feed 10 sheets at a time, usually 2-4 sheets is most common but have done 6 or 7 at a time. Because of the size of checks, they are fed one at a time, but have fewer and fewer of these as our banks stopped returning checks years ago and have only 1 or 2 pages a month showing the front and back of cashed checks. Credit union has cashed checks on line, so no paper there. It will do wire staples of the type for several sheets of paper, have not done any of the magazine variety. Also have done expired credit cards without any problems..

Q: QuestionDoes it shred old credit cards and the sample credit cards that always come in the mail?
Asked by Reecy1962.
- A:Answer Yes it does. Shreds CD's and credit cards with no problem. Very efficient. I don't open junk mail any longer. It shreds several pages at one time without jamming.

Q: Questiondoes this shedder work good im looking for a new one mine just broke last week for at home use
Asked by TATUM1980.
- A:Answer It works great! Here is my review: I tested this shredder by running a lot of sheets through it when I first got it. It worked perfectly and didn't overheat. I have learned that when a shredder is rated for so many sheets (this one is rated for 6) that if you run through that amount of sheets, it usually sounds like the machine is straining. It is best to use only 1/2 the amount of the rated number of sheets. I tested it with 3 sheets at a time and it did a great job. This shredder is not for heavy duty use but excellent for use when you don't have a large volume of sheets to shred. I have had very good results with Insignia products.

Q: QuestionDo I need to lubricate the shredder on a regular basis? Also, can I put gummed labels through the shredder? Do you sell lubricant, or lubricating sheets for the shredder? Thank You Mexicandad.
Asked by mexicandad.
- A:Answer Sticky labels are a problem, I put between couple sheets of paper to disguise the stickyness. Haven't had long enough to use lubrication sheets.

Q: QuestionWhat is the capacity of the basket?
Asked by Jeannie.
- A:Answer There is overheating protection. My experience (all of these immediately after opening the box) (I shred about 1000 plus A-4 sheets in a span of about 8 hrs with 20-30 mts break in between) - Paid 40 bucks incl of tax - About 2 ft high, little more than 1 ft wide, and little less than 1\2 a ft depth. Very light. - Easy to setup, just lift the motor head and place it on the plastic bin and plug into electrical outlet. That simple - On \ Off \Reverse button. Paper feeds automatically if you place it on the shredder. Auto stops on overheating. Green light for ready to go, Red light on overheating. Simple. The buttons are poorly made, so make sure to handle with real care, will definitely break if one is not gentle in handling it every time. - Should be gentle in handling the bin, because its not very sturdy. If bin for some reason goes out of original shape, it may be very difficult to place the motor head properly. This will not be a problem if your load is such that you empty the bin like once in 2-3 days. - The shredder slot is made pretty much exactly for the shorter side of A-4 printer paper. Anything even slightly bigger than that wouldn't fit.. There is nice groove handle to lift the motor head (recognized it after a few runs, it is not that obvious) - Bin takes in approximately 40--45 sheets of shredded paper without offering resistance to the incoming shredded paper. So suggest not to over push the shredded paper quantity in the bin. But I pushed it until 70 sheets when I stress tested it. - Takes 6 - 10 seconds for 1 to 6 sheet shredding. Not much of noise difference for number of sheets shredded at a time. - Noise level is pretty much there. To the point if you are watching TV at normal levels, it will make TV volume inaudible, but definitely way less than a food processor. Can't expect better than that - It pretty much struggles at 6 sheets. I would not use it for more than 3 sheets at a time. I read that all shredders are pretty much the same at any level. Standard recommendation is to use half the capacity of the shredder. So for the sake of longevity of the sharpness of the teeth of shredder, would suggest go with no more than 3 sheets at a time. - When I began for the first 10 runs I could do a minimum of 30 - 40 sheets at a time with about 20 -30 mts break in between. My suggestion, about 30 sheets at at a time with 3 sheets per run with 25-30 mts. break for the next 30 sheets and son on, will keep its longevity good. But after close to 4 hours, it could handle only about 20-25 sheets before overheating. But I wouldn't expect better, for a small baby like this. In one batch for test purpose, I ran 70 sheets @ 3 sheets\run, it devoured it in 2 minutes before over-heating. But I would not push it that far. - Overall I am happy. I bought this for daily mail\receipts shredding at home. I still tested it for continuous run with heavy load (w.r.t home\small business), since I had almost close to 1000-1200 sheets of printed paper with sensitive info. I would happily recommend it even for fairly heavy work. I checked out that it cost $1 per pound of shredding and they don't do it in front of you. You have hand over the docs trusting the company. It's insane to hand over any thing with ssn, dl, financial statements etc for shredding without one's presence. I already got back close to 10 to 12 dollars of my first day of shredding :)
