Being a bit of a space nerd, I've been looking forward to this set since I found out it was coming. My five year old son loves LEGO as well, so I thought it would be fun for him to get involved in the build. Well, with a bit of assistance from me (mainly squeezing bricks for proper fit), he ended up building about 60-70% of it. So yes - the build is not that difficult. At the same time, it's challenging enough to be entertaining and definitely more than just a quick LEGO fix. In addition to being a fun build, it also allows for lots of opportunity for education. He loved learning about different modules, which country contributed what, etc. The finished model is surprisingly accurate, and while it's definitely not a swoosh-it-around toy, it's a great display model. The stand is plenty sturdy and the ability to display the various spacecraft on it (and the custom-printed plaque) were very welcome. Overall - a great set, great value for the price, and highly recommended!

Fun, enjoyable build of a great model

This build was an absolute blast to build! No problems at all whatsoever and it's way bigger than I thought it'd be. I honestly wish I could build it again with how amazing and satisfying it was to complete. Word of advice though make sure you make room ahead of time for where you're going to put it because it stands wide and tall.

Amazing build

Love this build.  Was loving the fact that I could still get this set since it was discontinued by Lego.  Thankfully it was not sold for scalper prices like on other selling sites.

Amazing Build

It is a great display set, and that is solely what it should be used for, since the parts that stick out come off really easily. But it is a great set overall.

Great set for space fans!

Lego really nailed it on this one (as usual). Great value, beautifully detailed, a fair challenge to build but the end result is exquisite. My only complaint is that a lot of eye catching details are on the back and not readily visible at eye level display, but that's to be had as this set is a faithful reproduction. I own all the space sets except for the big space shuttle (which I beg you Lego, please bring it back!). And between this and my Apollo 11 it's a hard choice as to which one is my favorite. You guys are definitely nailing it with these space sets, keep them coming! It's awesome to get such a great looking, huge set for the price. Especially when my main Lego passion is Star Wars, which have huge mark ups (thanks Disney). I would absolutely recommend this set to anyone who loves space and a nice challenging build. Honestly I'd recommend it to anyone regardless. Thank you for another amazing set, can't wait to see what you are doing next. (SPACE SHUTTLE! SPACE SHUTTLE!) But I digress. Buy it, you will not regret it.

Beautiful set, a must have for space enthusiasts.

I haven't touched a lego in probably 30 years. Spent some time after work for 3 nights to build. Not too difficult, a good value for the price, and great looking. Didn't take long to remember why I loved LEGO so much When I was younger. I appreciate that LEGO has so many realistic options for the “older” kids to enjoy.

Impressive

When asked which LEGO set has been my favorite to build the ISS comes to mind. It is a beautiful set, much bigger than anticipated, and it provided me with some challenge (not easy but not grueling- just right). I had loads of fun customizing my set with extra pieces and changing it as I wanted.
 
However, if you would like to play with the ISS, one must do so carefully because some parts can break off. Aside from that I'd recommend it!

Best bang for your buck

I ordered this set for the fun of building and to display the set. For those purposes, the ISS set was a great product. The only drawback would be if you wanted to actually play with it. There are so many odd small pieces jutting off the main fuselage that I routinely knock multiple pieces off when i try to move or adjust it. When I first finished building it and taking a couple pics I went to put it up on the display shelf I'd selected. Unfortunately I misjudged the space and long story short, a slight bump against another object and I had to spend another 20 mins finding where the dropped pieces belonged. I don't meant to sound nitpicky but it's the type of item you put up for display and don't touch. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. 

Overall the build experience was challenging but very fun! It looks amazing, and aside from the fragility, it's an awesome homage to our longest running international space collaboration in the name of science and all humanity rather than individual sovereign prosperity! 

I highly recommend this set for anyone that is a fan of space exploration. Next I want to get the space shuttle and Saturn V sets if they ever come back into stock!

ISS Set is fun but hard to keep whole

If you are a fan of all things outer space then this is a must have for your collection. The build is a bit tedious at times and left me wondering why they suggested to put things together in the order they did. Most of the build takes place after the main housing is mounted on the stand which I did not particularly care for. The weight was not sustained in a proportional manner and had a tendency to lean and felt fragile.
I did like the attention to detail and complexity of the build. I also like the versatility in terms of how you can move and re-position the solar panels. It would have been a nice addition to have the space shuttle actually dock to the space station or an attachment to allow it to hover around it. Unfortunately, the only place to locate the space shuttle is in the center of the stand resting on the bottom.
Overall, a fun build that I would recommend.

The ISS: Tedious but FUN

I've been absolutely floored by the space-based options that LEGO has released over the past few years: the Saturn V, the Apollo 11 LEM, and even the great (if much smaller) Women of NASA set. I was hoping this ISS build would match the quality of these previous sets, but it unfortunately fell flat.

There was something about this build that I just found very unsatisfying. There were no "wow" moments in the build like in the Saturn V or LEM, which resulted in something of a lackluster building experience. There are no stickers, which is nice—all designs are printed on the bricks themselves—but that's about the best praise I can offer.

Now that I've finished the build, it all strikes me as very flimsy. The price was quite a bit lower than I expected, but I wouldn't buy it again if I had the option.

With all of this said, I don't think the design itself is the problem. Rather, I think the ISS itself isn't conducive to a very satisfying build; it's ultimately just one long tube with long solar panels sticking out. Perhaps the LEGO Ideas vote was right to initially decline turning this build into reality.
