The overall size perfectly crimps the bread to limit leakage. It also presses the bread slightly so that you get a proper golden brown.
You still have to know what you're about around a campfire. These are analog devices and you'll burn a few pies or sandwiches until you get the hang of it. Can't blame the device for that.
They are also cast iron so you need to season them and then clean them properly. Which means just wipe them out. The handles conveniently unscrew which makes seasoning easy.
The lock ring is a little flimsy so you may have to fix it or replace it with your own wire. A little strip of leather works well. I'd like to see that improved but these are also pretty cheap for what they do.
And you get a bunch of kids around a fire with a bunch of sweet ingredients and they have a ball. We have 8 at the cabin.
And you have to clean them properly. If you don't know how to use cast iron you can mess these up.
