Attractive Blade FinishKershaw’s Bead-Blasted finish enhances a knife’s aesthetics and complements its end-use. The high-tech finish is achieved by applying a mixture of fine media onto the blade’s steel under high pressure, creating a smooth, non-reflective matte surface. Fine media includes glass and aluminum oxide beads that allow color variation and optimal performance results for an overall stunning effect. |
Secure Locking SystemWith two steel plates, or liners, on the inside of each handle scale, the liner locking system safely secures the blade open and prevents unwanted blade closure. The lockbar butts up against the blade’s backend to prevent closure, and angles or is bent towards the blade tang creating a bias locked position. Apply manual force to move the lockbar to the side and fold the blade back into the handle. |
Fast DeploymentUsing a torsion bar to move the blade out of the handle, Kershaw’s revolutionary SpeedSafe Assisted Opening system enables smooth, secure, fast one-handed blade deployment. Apply manual pressure to the flipper or thumb stud with a light push or pull back to overcome resistance of the torsion bar, and the blade opens smoothly and locks into place for confident handling without premature closure. |
A Knife like no other

Convenient PocketclipKershaw designs pocketclips to fit specific knives according to their weight, intended end use, size, style and hardware. Some knives have multiple carry options, others are more streamlined. A pocketclip with tip-down carry is positioned so the closed knife carries in the pocket with the tip of its blade pointed down. A reversible tip-up or tip-down pocketclip allows user to change tip position. |
Durable HandleVery tough, able to take heavy-duty hard use, and versatile, glass-filled nylon handle material is a nylon synthetic polymer reinforced with glass threads for increased strength. Glass-filled nylon has incredible stiffness for a secure and stable grip, great ability to withstand heat, and dimensional stability combined with excellent wear resistance. |
One-Handed FlipperKnives with SpeedSafe open have two options for one-handed blade deployment. To activate the smooth, instant open, user can push a thumbstud or press a flipper. The flipper on SpeedSafe assisted knives is easy to operate by both left- and right-handed users. And, once blade swings open and locks into place, flipper either disappears for aesthetics or remains visible for added finger protection. |
Product Description
The Kershaw Grinder is designed to be put to work. It offers a blade with a slightly curved belly for all-purpose cutting and slicing. A clipped, tanto-inspired tip offers excellent piercing capabilities, too. If you need to bear down on the back of the blade during a particularly tough cutting job, the concave spine with heavy jimping provides additional grip security. The work-ready blade is made of 4Cr13 steel for solid service. The pocketclip allows for reversible deep carry, for easy storage when not in use. You can look to Kershaw for everyday carrying knives that can tame any cardboard box and liberate any purchase from its plastic packaging, sporting knives that make hunting, fishing, watersports, and camping even better, work knives that won’t let you down, and tactical knives that ensure you’re ready for anything.

Full disclosure: This is not my daily carry, but it could be. My daily is the Kershaw Link 1776T, another very good product. If anything ever happened to that knife, this one would easily take its place.
It worked nice right out of the box. It didn’t hang up, I didn’t have to oil it, or make any adjustments. Shaving sharp, too.
If I were a knife snob, I probably wouldn’t have given this blade a second look, but I’m not and I’m glad I’m not. I would’ve missed out on an inexpensive, but completely capable knife for my needs. It’s not solid like a hunting knife, but the lock-up and disconnect are solid and smooth. It feels great in-hand.
As far as the carry option, I’ve come to prefer a tip-down carry. Extracting from my pocket puts my index finger directly in line with the flipper, and at a safe angle to open away from me.
I haven’t used it extensively, so I can’t speak to the clip creating a hot spot, but the way it fits in my hand, I can’t see where it would, unless maybe if you were making a lot of feather sticks. Even then I think that’s a stretch.
My experience with the steel, which is the same on my Link, it holds a decent edge, and it’s easy to dress. I don’t allow my knives to get too dull. I stay on top of sharpening.
All in all a five star knife for my purposes.
Arrived sharp, working well with screws tight and the blade is centered ( with a ceramic touch up it shaves ).
Grip is great, fits my large hand just fine, the jimping on the back allows some better finger control and looks kinda cool and different .
Im glad i got it for sure, even though its alittle beefy (wide) it doesn't interfere with grabbing something out of the pocket its in, ( hate that.. Edc breaker for sure).
Ill update after some time and use.
Lastly, much like the other reviewer here mine arrived a little stiff. I used a q-tip to remove the rather cheap looking gunky oil from the opening mechanism and added some quality lubricant and it snaps open and closed effortlessly now.
Is it the perfect knife? Of course not, it's in the budget price range. So lets do a bullet pointed list!
Pros:
* Blade shape gives you more edge in less space.
* Pocket clip lets you deep carry the knife.
* Blade steel above average for this price range.
* Flipper knives work for both left handed and right handed people.
* Solid lockup when open - no horizontal or vertical wiggle.
* Comfortable to hold and the back of the blade has jimping if you need to move your thumb to it to add pressure to your cuts.
Cons:
* Blade steel will require some sharpening every few months (easily done and relaxing).
* A little heavy.
* Pocket clip will cause hot spots on your hand after prolonged cutting.
* I had to open and oil the knife to make it smooth.
The pro's far outweigh the cons which is unusual in this price range. I'm really only knocking a star off because i had to open and oil it pretty much out the box.
If someone handed me this knife without telling me anything about it, I would have guessed the price to be $40-50. So this is a good deal. It's not a high end knife. But it's a great bargain at around $20!
