Drains well. Very happy with this & will keep repurchasing.
Well let me tell you, this is the ONLY stuff I will buy from now on even though cost wise it's on the higher end for how much you get in a bag. Beautiful fluffy mix that barely had any chunks in it. Bags are well sealed so I can understand why this stuff would come free of Fungus Gnat eggs. I do notice I can water a bit less often too. I even have my succulents in this stuff and just keep those in unglazed terracotta pots so those plants do not become waterlogged.
I have a good amount of plants I wanted to go through and redo all the soil, so I grabbed 6 bags my first order and I'm almost ready to place another order, great great stuff.
Since what I had been using prior to these was infested with Fungus Gnats I had to use a separate deterent "Mosquito Dunks in the bits size on the surface works for me" with this new potting mix until the full life cyle of the Fungus Gnats had passed. I made sure to go very lite on watering for that life cycle and I am happy to report, about 2 months after repotting, not a single Fungus Gnat in sight.
For it feeding plants for 3 months, I can not say as I use a separate organic fertilizer too.
So forgetful these days. My tiny garden seems to be creeping upwards slowly.
They have plenty of strong sun rays [6-8hrs]. They even seem to be darker green than my previous batch. This organic potting mix has wiry little coconut hair in it to deter nasty little buggies from laying. Although I do see plenty of buggies flying around me and my plants. They haven't seemed to have dropped any surprises into my plants.
I may have over seeded out of pure excitment😁 I may have to dig some out and replant that portion I'll be using Burpee's.
Burpees is less expensive & seems to be doing its best for the once tiny apt planting. My plants, veggies and everything seems to be progressing well. I've even add Burpee's potting soil to expand the repotting of existing soil around a pretty Ponder Rosa lemon tree.
I was remiss when not having my fertilizer availabe for the first couple of weeks but as soon as did get the shippment. I drenched all in fertilizer [compost tea]. They all seem to be doing better including the few plants I did bring along for a huge leap [relocating] from the North East Coast to the Mid West all seem to adapting except me problem convincing my head & body that it's time to go to bed at a reasonable hr. I seem to have forgotten this on my last visit and the longest day of light 9:45 - 10pm sunset
I used this for 3 potted plants placed in full sun: basil, oregano, and tomatoes.
Well an unseasonable frost killed my basil.
All-day sun burnt my oregano.
And my tomato plant produced 4 hardy red plum tomatoes with a good taste but thick almost crunchy skin, mid-summer. Now a month later, that plant has dried up and burnt in the sun also.
I live in New England and my yard gets the south sun. I planted these same exact kinds of plants in my back yard in sun with some shade and for comparison, here is what happened to each:
The frost also killed the basil.
The tomato plants grew but no tomatoes yet
The oregano was/is doing awesome.
So was it the sun? Lighting conditions were different between earth and potting soil.
Idk.
You probably know abt gardening better than I do, so give it a try. This is just what happened for me
