Having owned a couple Yamaha guitars over the years I am familiar with their value. Especially is this true of the 700 series. They sound good (and will improve over the years), and play very comfortably. Not certain why, but Yamaha Co. has decided to 'fix' something that isn't broken...the style of necks on their acoustics. The new 800 series neck just don't 'feel' right. No doubt some folks will love them, but I really don't. So, I would suggest logging on to your account and getting a Yamaha 700 series while you can. Get a new one if possible, or hopefully a quality used one. I paid $180 for mine...DELIVERED! I am sure you can as well.

I got mine a few weeks ago and just started learning how to play. The sound of the guitar does sound great as is and I was able to get it in tune easily. The guitar itself is amazing quality. The wood finish looks beautiful and near perfect, not one imperfection that I can see. The spruce top looks great too. The edges are finished in black accents to match the bridge pins giving it a nice touch. The neck is perfectly straight and the frets are smooth on the edges as I move my hand into different positions up and down the neck. The quality of wood appears to be nice as well. It seems to stay in tune reasonably well since I don't have any other guitar to compare it to. Recently it survived the 7.8 earthquake in Ecuador and is now my lucky guitar. I am very happy with the purchase and look forward to many years of use.Read full review

Purchased the used Yamaha FG 700S in the beginning of February 2017. I own several more expensive guitars but did not bring an instrument on vacation so I decided to purchase a "travel" guitar. After research on-line and reading reviews I decided to try the Yamaha. I am very impressed with quality of this instrument as well as the $ value. I have no idea how old this guitar is but the spruce top has a great aged look. The neck is a comfortable size and straight, the frets have no sharp ends but are worn from use, and the action is low and easy to play...even for barre chords. I changed out the old strings to a set of L 10-42 GHS silk an steel, which I prefer for soft finger picking.....this guitar has a very impressive tone for my style of play....a rich, full sound. I do not know if the action was "set up"....I think it would be unusual for it to have come from Yamaha this nice. The finish on the top and back is quite good, there is a slight roughness to the finish on the sides, particularly near the neck. The tuners are excellent and the guitar stays in tune. The guitar is a traditional full size dreadnought, relatively plain in appearance and made in China to Yamaha specs using quality woods (this last point is certainly arguable but this is not an $1800 guitar). This instrument is better than a "beginners guitar" as some reviews suggest. You can find many of these used for under $200....an exceptional value for the quality and sound. If the example I purchased is normal, you cannot go wrong acquiring an FG 700S, a keeper. Read full review

I'm a total newbie so I have nothing to compare this guitar to. I can say, that in my opinion the quality and sound of this guitar is excellent. The guitar is beautifully finished and construction seems to be done with great care. Feels lighter than I thought it would be, even better with the strap. Great value for your dollar. The accessories with the package are also a plus. The hard case is a perfect fit, very sturdy and should provide ample protection for years. There is a small storage compartment inside to hold essential items like the picks, strap, strings and tuner. I really liked the fact that the tuner was included. Very easy to get the tuning right without a lot of hassle. My intention is to learn a few chords and be able to play simple children's songs and sing them with my grand daughter. This package gave me everything necessary to accomplish that. Grampa really rocks on "Itsy Bitsy Spider"!Read full review
This is a very nice guitar, especially for a beginner like me. I enjoyed the DVD and am trying to do what it says. The tuner is a great help, and the stand is well built. I wish the case that is supplied with the guitar were a little heavier in construction with more padding, but it will do for now. It's also nice that the bundle includes a second set of strings and a string winder. They should keep me going for quite a while. Overall a nice combination of instrument and accessories.
