After 20 years of teaching Chinese cooking in the San Francisco Bay Area, I finally realized my dream of opening a restaurant serving home-style Chinese food, with good service in a pleasant atmosphere. The Mill Valley restaurant opened in 1987 and we have been blessed with loyal customers. In 1992 I opened a second Jennie Low's, located in Novato's Vintage Oaks Center. Again, we have enjoyed success and made many new friends. The Mill Valley restaurant is now closed, but a new restaurant in Petaluma was opened in August of 2007. My two daughters are my indispensable assistants - Cindy in the Petaluma location and Denise in Novato. Both restaurants feature traditional dishes from many regions of China, including Cantonese, Mandarin, Szechwan and Hunan, as well as more inventive ones using California's vast array of fresh foods.
