Details: Apple has a new 4GB iPod shuffle for $79. Shipping is free. It comes in two shades of gray right now, holds 1,000 songs and even talks to you. It tells you what song is playing and who is performing it. The controls are now on the earbud cord.

Because having an irritating computer voice talking over your songs makes more sense than adding a small OLED display. FAIL.

I think it's pretty cool. I could care less about the voice, but it's cool that the device is on the earphones like an iPhone and I like how you can organize playlists without using iTunes...because i HATE iTunes =)
Plus it's TINY!

I agree with FAIL.

First, the gimmick of the voice is pretty stupid. The device has music YOU upload. If you can't recognize your own songs, you're an idiot.

Second, moving the controls to the earbuds means you can't change to better earbuds; you're stuck with the ones they provide you.

Last, from the demo, it looks like you can only skip forward, can't skip back/repeat last song. if that's true, that's a huge step back. The old shuffle was small enough; shrinking an already tiny device by half again doesn't really provide the user with any advantage. The main advantage to a smaller device is weight, and the prior version already weighs next to nothing, plus the earbud control just redistributes weight from the device to cord.
