====================================================
Everyone at Nova Scotia Tourism & Culture and Alexander Keith' s* are proud of our Nova Scotian musicians and we hope that you will enjoy our Sociable - A Toast to Nova Scotia Music CD.
(* TM/MC Keith' s Brewery)

Below are the artists and groups featured on the Sociable - A Toast to Nova Scotia Music CD.

Jimmy Rankin
After ten years of touring, numerous hit singles, multiple Juno awards and sales of over two million albums with Canadian musical heroes The Rankins (which disbanded in 1999), Jimmy Rankin, now solo singer-songwriter, is back with his critically acclaimed debut album, Song Dog. Jimmy Rankin chronicles the human experience in songs where raw emotion and masterful musicality meet pop, roots rock and Celtic-tinged flavours head-on. Visit Jimmy Rankin' s website at www.JimmyRankin.com

John Gracie
A multiple ECMA Award-winner and JUNO nominee, Cape Breton singer/songwriter, John Gracie has toured internationally from Tokyo to Manhattan and has received gold record status twice. Visit John Gracie' s website at www.johngracie.com

Gordie Sampson
Winner of the ECMA Songwriter of the Year Award for three years running 2000: Sorry, 2001: Get Me Thru December cowrite with Fred Lavery, 2002: Followed Her Around cowrite with Jimmy Rankin.

Dave Gunning
Gunning' s newest recording " Caught Between Shadows" contains a blend of sensitive folk lyrics and powerful pop arrangements that creates a sound that is uniquely his own. With his insightful songwriting and high-energy live performances, Dave is at the forefront of the new wave of East Coast singer / songwriters.

Slainte Mhath
Hailing from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Slainte Mhath (pronounced Slawncha Va) is taking the international music community by storm. Known for their progressive take on traditional music, this quintet was nominated for the BBC' s Horizon Award (Rising Star) in 2002). www.slaintemhath.com

Evans & Doherty
Kevin Evans & Brian Doherty have been an integral part of the East Coast music scene for twenty years. They have been together as Evans & Doherty for fourteen years. To capture the essence of an Evans & Doherty performance, take a lively blend of traditional, original and contemporary songs, add a liberal sprinkling of stories and humour, then sit back and enjoy these fine entertainers.

Evans & Doherty have recently embraced the e-commerce world. Their website offers online shopping as well as press information, a guestbook, a tour schedule and MP3' s for download.www.evansanddoherty.com

Bob Quinn Project
The official theme of Nova Scotia tourism for the past ten years. Penned by international award winning composer Bob Quinn. From the album ' Coast of Difference" featuring many of Nova Scotia' s top musical ambassadors.

Bruce Guthro
Bruce Guthro is an honest storyteller with a striking voice. His music excites, inspires and stirs in the tradition of great songwriters who can say what all have felt but few can express. His EMI Music Canada debut, 1998' s Of Your Son, was certified GOLD and produced two hit singles (" Walk This Road," and " Falling" ). Bruce' s follow-up release -- simply titled Guthro -- reveals the pride of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia as a man of the world.

" I didn' t think about any particular genre of music when we started," explains Guthro. " I' m basically a storyteller, so I can wrap my songs in any format, rock, pop or country, whatever I want." Bruce Guthro www.bruceguthro.com

Sons of Maxwell
The highly entertaining pop/folk band, S.O.M is built around and fronted by co-vocalists Don and Dave Carroll. The brothers' signature close harmonies could only be genetic and with the great musicians that back them up on tour, " the high energy and deeply engaging album performances are carried seamlessly to the stage" .

The band has generated a very impressive discography in a relatively short time with most of their seven albums featuring the songwriting of Dave Carroll. Following the release of The Neighbourhood album (1998), S.O.M won industry awards and recognition, made the charts and CMT' s Top 100 videos list. Based on the strength of their brand new album (Among the Living), they have already garnered a 2002 East Coast Music Awards nomination. www.sonsofmaxwell.com

Stan Rogers
Stan was a passionate Canadian partisan, and much of his short creative life was taken up with song cycles that chronicled the East, the Plains, the West and finally the Great Lakes and Ontario. It was a natural progression for a wanderer...to scan a continent and finally return to write of the wonders of home.

He was always on the road pursuing his dream of establishing a national identity for Canadian songwriting. It was a dream fulfilled; through his constant soaring, dynamic performances, and brilliant songs, he was known throughout most of the English-speaking folk music world. Stan died in 1983, he was posthumously awarded the DiplĂ´me d' Honneur by the Canadian Conference of the Arts, in 1984. His music continues to amaze, amuse and inspire people from all walks of life. It has appeared in several poetry anthologies, been used in films, plays and musicals, and has been referred to as " one of the touchstones of modern Canadian history." www.stanrogers.net
