I refuse to buy anything that has a mail-in rebate! I'm tired of playing the games! Why can't they just give an instant rebate instead? I'll tell you why! The game is to try and get you as frustrated as possible so you will finally give up so they don't pay out. Ever wonder where all the money from the "non-payed" rebates end up? Probably in some GM's bonus!

I am certainly sympathetic to your frustration. But now that Compusa is going out of business, a large source of bogus rebates is gone. Now we can only hope Continental Promotions Group, a rebate fulfillment house, located in Arizona goes out of business also. Together, they work together to deny legitimate rebates from consumers.

It's nothing but a CON game. This past August (2007) the Wall Street Journal decided to try a test on rebates. They sent 5 very proficient people out to 5 different retailers to buy 5 different items. The only requirement was that all 5 items had to have mail in rebates associated with them. All 5 buyers followed the rebate requirements explicitly and out of the 5, only one received the rebate. That's an 80% failure rate!!!!

When I see a mail-in rebate, I usually run in the opposite direction. I said "usually" because the other day I broke my rule; I bought a fax/modem that I thought was a good deal even without the rebate. Am I going to send the stinking rebate form in? Yes, I will, but I won't be holding my breath................

My mom and I haven't had any problems yet with mail in rebates.
I've had one on my cell phone(Motorola) and my laptop(HP). Got them soon and with no trouble.
My mom has had them on computers(Emachine) and a CD-R drive. She got them all and even double on one of them.
Maybe I'm the odd one that has luck with them. *shrugs*
