I already have DVD Shrink among many other DVD/CD free programs. DVD Platinum program is for movies only, and the gist of this post is that I was ripped off by the store (although J&R had promised my $40 rebate, I still have the e-mail). It works flawlessly; however, it does not back up my data. Found a Great free program Burn4Free, just has ad window, but it's completely harmless. As for Nero, I don't recommend that program. I'm trying to keep this post short, as it's kind of a long story. Anyway, Nero is not compatible with other software. I don't recommend it. I had downloaded a program from one of those "fake" review sites. We did get our money back for the so-called program. It turned out to be just directions for burning DVDs & links to software, some free, some cost $$. They wanted money for their own DVD burning software! Anyway, Nero was one of the downloads. I was supposed to get a 30-day trial on Nero which lasted a day, I think. I don't recommend Nero personally for many reasons. Burn4Free is wonderful CD & DVD program. You can burn a file as an ISO, and then burn the ISO file later. It has a lot of features for a free program. It is also compatible with my awful DVD writers. Actually my computer has to go into the shop so that HP can either give me a new DVD RW or repair the firmware that came with it. My Pioneer DVDRW is also problamatic as it is also "write-protected." One cannoot write directly to the drive. I tried to download DLA from HP, but it did not work properly because the firmware was not done properly for my HP burner. Anotherwords, one can't copy directly the DVD or CD; one has to open another app to burn data, movies, etc. I should have bought the Plextor DVD writer which stated one could burn as easily as to a floppy. I have an old CD burner (in the box) from HP which has that capability. Now we're going into the RIAA which probably made the cos. put this protection on these drives. However, HP's new pcs are engineered differently. I brought a DVDRW disk to Best Buy. I asked the salesman if I could test one of the HPs. I then typed a short note, and saved as/to the "E" drive. It wrote directly to the disk. HP has conceded that my drive is problamatic. They actually sent me the wrong "patch" for the drivers, it was for an aftermarket burner! Thanks for the info, but I already have that one among many. I have the newest version of Nero if I decide to try it again. Thank goodness I have GoBack as the last one messed up this PC. The System Restore does not work properly on this pc, either. I have DVD Decrypter, Shrink 3.1, DVD to VCD, etc. I only own 3 DVDs anyway. I don't mind going to the library, as one gets to keep a movie all weekend if it's borrowed on a Friday night. My DVD players are not even set up yet, except on the computer. Anyway, my copy of Platinum is the older version. Even 321's engineers knew about the problem with my burner. For it to work, I had to get a patch from Microsoft (Patten Couffin something).
