I googled "rollover" and this is where I ennded up. Maybe someone can give me some advice, as I'm pretty clueless on this one. My 84-yr-old widow mother, (I know, your heart is breaking already), needs a phone that will work in "middle of nowhere", Georgia just in case of the proverbial emergency. She uses MAYBE 30 min/month. She wants a pre-pay that lets her "pay-as-you-go", but doesn't want her minutes to expire if she doesn't use them. (I'n pretty sure she want a winning lottery ticket and Tony Bennet at her doorstep, but...) Any suggestions?

I had ATT/Cingular for 10 years, got married and my husband wanted to swith...WORST mistake ever, we have more dropped calls. Now I understand why their commerical says, "can you hear me now", because we are always losing/dropping calls with Verizon. They suck...if I could get out of my contract I would TODAY!

To the person questioning the cheapest way to go mobile for your 84 year old mother. If it's just for emergencies.. CALLING 911... any phone will do that. Even if it has active service or not. Someone may give you a phone for her to have for peace of mind. Otherwise, look up phones that have the best coverage in her area. I hate paying for something I don't use, and with prepaid, you can pay $100 for prepaid and have service for a year. With some, like t-mobile, if you haven't used up those minutes within that year, you can put another $10 on the phone and have it another year. (if you can pick up t-mobile, this is the best one to choose)(My opinion) I loved how t-mobile's prepaid worked. Now I have at&t prepaid and I'm looking for something different. I am traveling with my family. At home it works good, but where we're at right now, it only has reception when it wants to. I've heard so many great things about Verizon, from everyone I've met on the road, but they are more expensive and all of my friends and family are on At&t. Guess I'll be doing a little more research before I make up my mind.

>>If it's just for emergencies.. CALLING 911... any phone will do that. That's true and it's not a bad idea to have an old phone and keep it charged in case you need to call 911, but there are a lot of "emergencies" that don't qualify for 911. I wouldn't try calling 911 to fix a flat tire or for directions when I'm lost.
