yutaka731 -> Printer Advice: Dell A960 vs. HP 5510 (1/5/2004 9:29:53 PM)

I am in the market for a new multifunction printer. I would appreciate some advice. I have narrowed it down to the above. I like Dell's customer support and the A970 is the cheaper of the two by $40. HP always seems to make quality printers. Which one do you guys think is better? Should I consider that the Dell cartridges might be more expensive? I like the multifunction printers with sheetfed scanners. Any other suggestions alre welcomed.

You may already be aware of this. The Dell printers are actually Lexmark doubles. Specially made such that the Lexmark ink carts won't work. I don't have very good experience with Lexmark but I remember that the A960 seems to have a good review with PC Mag. But I really like the HP's style and foot print, if flatbed scanning is not of your concern. I think
fax based All-in-ones tend to be more reliable overtime.

A word of advice for buying All-in-Ones is that you are likely to keep the device for a much longer period than a printer or scanner alone. So the price of ink cart is really important. I just hate Lexmart in the area of low end printers. Not sure about the A960.
